The architecture
Zurenborg is best known for Cogels-Osylei and the surrounding streets — a dense stretch of Belle Époque townhouses in a mix of Neo-Gothic, Art Nouveau, and Neoclassical styles, largely built around 1900. It's a genuinely unusual streetscape to live among, not a manufactured "historic district" — real residential streets that happen to look like it.
Day to day
Cafes and small restaurants cluster around Dageraadplaats, a short walk from Ommeganckstraat — the neighborhood's actual social center, busiest on weekend mornings. It's a walkable, lived-in area rather than a tourist one.
Getting anywhere else
Antwerpen-Centraal and Antwerp Zoo are a few minutes' walk north; Berchem station is close on the other side, useful for some regional/international trains. De Lijn trams run through the area for everything in between.
Green space and quieter corners
Away from the Cogels-Osylei postcard streets, Zurenborg is mostly quiet residential blocks — small squares, courtyards, and side streets that see local traffic rather than through-traffic. It reads as a place people actually live, with the busier, tourist-facing part of the city a short walk rather than right outside the door.
Food and everyday shopping
Beyond the cafes on Dageraadplaats, the neighborhood has the everyday basics within a short walk — bakeries, small grocery shops, pharmacies — so daily errands don't require a trip into the city center. It's a walkable-life neighborhood more than a destination one.
Who lives here
It's a mixed, largely residential crowd: long-time Antwerp residents, young professionals, and a steady share of people here for exactly the kind of stay a furnished apartment suits — a project, a relocation, a few months before deciding where to settle longer-term.
